Does chemical hair straightening ruin your hair?

I am caucasian and I have thick, brown wavy/curly hair.. Its not perfect tight curls its more like frizzy wavy curls all over the place... Thus making it very hard to style. I have tried almost every product possible.. I straighten my hair when I have to go to work or out and since I have very long hair I have been considering permenently getting my hair relaxed so that I would not have to spend so much time straightening my hair all the time which is most likely not good for my hair anyways, instead i could spend the time making it look nice like curling it or putting it up or different hairstyles etc. I recently called a hair salon to find out the price but I still have to call back on tuesday again.. so if anyone has experience with this let me know.. thanks!

instead of getting a typical relaxer I highly recommend this natural relaxer. I used it on my friend with extremely damaged hair that was tight thick curls. her hair was in better condition afterwards than before... you can even ask your salon to do it for you, but it's easy enough to do at home:

I have really thin, blonde hair thats curly and a bit frizzy sometimes, and i wanted to use chemical straightener but my hair stylist warned me that for my type of hair, it would totally KILL it... So I had to buy a flatiron... but oh well! It's not so bad... your hair on the other hand, would be fine if it's thick :)

you should go to some asian salon where they have this hair straightening call "fu lay zi" after doing that helps your hair become straight and smooth. it does damage hair but those salon people put this hair repair conditioning product which really helps. they charge on average $100. it really nice and keeps your hair straight and pretty.

Hey!

I had my hair relaxed.(I have really thick wavy hair)

It was super nice for the first couple of months. Really shiny and straight. But after a year, my hair got so fried and so damaged.

Honestly, just stick to flat ironing it. I do not think it is worth it.

I am talking, FRIED like Kentucky fried chicken.

It was bad. I had to cut a lot of it off.
