Whats a good hairstlye for guys with long hair?

so basically this summer im getting my long *** hair cut, but i still want it somewhat long. it's about 5 inches past my shoulders now, and i don't really want it cut anymore than 3 inches. should i layer it? or what's another good hairstyle that'll still keep it long?
